Brand Identity
& Publication
105 x 148mm
44 pp. Softcover

‘Thornton Winiata’ is a self titled personal brand focused on creating luxury versions of every day objects that help reinforce the wearers confidence.

This brand exists to challenge how we interact with everyday objects — Elevating the mundane into something meaningful through intentional design and craftsmanship. By re-imagining function as the foundation of form, it transforms overlooked accessories and objects into pieces that enhance daily life. Rooted in industrial design principles and handcrafted with precision, each piece is made with high quality sterling silver, reinforcing a commitment to durability, timelessness, and tactile experience.

To first introduce the brand an A6 gestural publication was made surrounding the māori whakatauki “kei o ringaringa te ao” (the world is yours).

“This project had deep personal meaning to me; my great great uncle Martin was a jazz musician in the 40s and 50s, despite being deaf he taught himself how to play the saxaphone and clarinet, he could even play both at the same time. When I was 16 I grew an affinity for jazz; I used to smoke in my friends basement listening to his dads record collection for hours. This first introduced me to the world of jazz.”

For this project I created a 78 record slip cover that detailed the history of jazz in Aotearoa from the last 108 years. From when the ‘Livery Stable Blues’ recording landed on NZ shores to the artists today keeping the influence of jazz alive.

“Do you remember?” Is an abstract visualisation of the cycle of addiction through memories. A layering particle system is used to immerse viewers in how memories visualise in the brain, constantly cycling from one to the other.
